I will try my best to remember everyone’s name, but I know I’ll have problems with telling Lizzy and Vicky apart…

Once everyone (well most of us) arrived and got seated, Beth and Bob immediately split us into groups and sent us off on campus-wide scavenger hunts in order to familiarize ourselves with the campus. Equipped with a video camera and pictures of various objects, we documented our adventure and eventually assembled a (very rough) video of our findings.

After a free but filling lunch (thank you), we shared our videos and a panel of judges decided the on the winner. My group did not win, but at least we won a paper plate award for “Best Pun.” This was followed up by a quick informational presentation about what to expect and basic guidelines to keep in mind. We also were given more free stuff, woohoo free thumb drives!

To conclude the day, we were split into our respective lab groups to learn from the lab members what their lab and work is all about. And of course, more names to memorize! Nick, Anna, Austin, Rajab, Alex, Nick, Chase, Raul, Kristyn, and Zach… Nick, Anna, Austin, Rajab, Alex, Nick, Chase, Raul, Kristyn, and Zach… Nick, Anna, Austin, Rajab, Alex, Nick, Chase, Raul, Kristyn, and Zach… I also got a rough idea of what project I will be working on, and at least for this week, I will need to brush up on my programming skills, as well as look into new programming languages (JavaScript and HTML [and possibly C++/C#])

Overall, it was a very fun yet exhausting first day. There is a long ways to go, but a lot to look forward to!
